I hope you like sailing ships because they’re this weeks theme. Some beautiful ships were made here in Albert County. Here is a photo of the ship Peaceland, at the wharf in Alma.

It’s Sunday and a time for rest, which is probably when this photo was taken. A great picture of the Wharf in Edgett’s Landing where the Gypsum from the King Quarry was loaded on Boats for Shipment Approx.1930’s.

And why not another photo of the Alma Covered Bridge, but from the other direction. This photo was taken circa 1950.

Okay continuing around the county, with this amazing photo from Alma. Sadly this bridge is no longer with us, but with the size of today’s motorhomes it’s probably a good thing, although today’s utilitarian causeway lacks the majestic charm of this bridge.

Okay 10 points to the person who can identify where this might be in the county. This photo is from Archives New Brunswick, and is listed as An Albert County stream, c.1940.

This is one of my favourite views, which you can just glimpse today through the trees. It is between Hopewell Cape and Hillsborough, but closer to the Cape. The white structure to the right are the Gypsum Company Silos. Although probably safer, today’s guardrails lack the picturesque beauty of this ones from 1938.

Now back to Hillsborough. Here is a photo of the W.Street Steeves Residence on Oxley Street. Did you notice the person on the rocking chair ?

Now a trip to Edgett’s Landing showing the King John (Steeves) House. This was last owned by Perce & Gertie Steeves. It has since fallen down. I think at one time, it was the oldest house in Albert County, I wonder which house owns that title now? Any thoughts?

Now a trip to Hillsborough showing the Jordan Steeves House c.1900 in Main Street. Jordan Steeves was the owner of J Steeves and Son Hardware. Notice the canopy on the carriage and the bicycle, what a great picture.

Now a trip to Hopewell Cape with this house on the Old Great Road. What a gorgeous classic picket fence.This was owned by the Martin Family and sadly burned many years ago.

I’m posting this amazing photo just in case anyone is complaining about the heat, Here is a photo of Albert County’s famous conservationist Mary Majka and her home on Caledonia Mountain on March 27, 1967. Enjoy the summer!
